Located in the border region of the northern Dutch provinces of Drenthe and Friesland, the National Park Drents-Friese Wold is one of the most expansive areas of natural beauty in the Netherlands. Covering more than 6,000 hectares, this surprisingly varied landscape of forest, heathland, shifting sands and brook valley grasslands was designated as a national park in the year 2000. In addition, the National Park Drents-Friese Wold is one of the most beautiful and - because of its special qualities - important nature areas in Europe and has therefore been designated as a Nature2000 area.

We aim not only to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the National Park but also to promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of Drents-Friese Wold by the public. Sustainable economic and social development is strongly encouraged. The park is a popular attraction and visitors are warmly welcomed by the many small businesses in the local communities.
